It is the smallest fox in the world, but also the smallest canid.

Appearance

It is around 20 cm tall, weighs less than a kilogram, rarely over 1.5 kg and 25–40 cm long. Although small in size it has the biggest ears, 10–15 cm, which purpose is to lose heat and hear the tiniest sound. Fur is light in colour and thick to keep the body warmth during cold desert nights.

Lifestyle

It is very well adjusted to keeping cool and finding any food in hot dry sand. During the day it rests in cold sandy dens, while at nights it goes hunting. It is extremely fast, primarily taking its size into consideration.

Food

It feeds on rodents, lizards and insects.

Habitat

It lives in African and Arabian deserts.
