Stick to the schedule that will consist of same or close to same daily activity. Try to make as less as possible irregularities between longevity of daily walks. Don't let the dog have as its only physical activity relieving itself in front of your building for five days and than have it run for miles on the sixth day.
By walking your dog you discipline it as well, because the right type of walk has certain rules: it has to be structured and simple. If it is in its right form, it will secure your role as a leader.
Walk is consisted of:
1. Walking on a leash – the collar must be positioned high on the neck, so harness should be avoided. The leash must be loose, but the distance from your hand to the neck of your dog as close as possible. The dog should walk close to you or slightly behind. If it is in font of you, than the dog is the leader.
2. Walking off the leash – unless the dog shows serious behavioural problems or it is dangerous, walking the dog should not mean that the dog is constantly on a leash. However, there must be some rules as well. Firs of all, do not let the dog be further than about 15 metres from you. As soon as it goes further, call it. This is the time to use to throw it a stick, a ball, a frisbee... It can sniff around or play with you or other dogs. You can encourage it to jump over things or to climb to the top of some hillside.
